Mumford Magic

We had the pleasure of speaking with George Mumford, mindfulness teacher to Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and other elite performers at the Wisdom 2.0 conference in San Francisco. Mumford emphasized the importance of deliberate breathing to counteract the stress response tied to our always on the go lifestyle. He calls it re-setting our internal north star. Mumford also demistified the notion of “big moments”, explaining that they actually don’t exist – really, there are just moments! The great ones rise to the occasion when the pressure’s on because they are supremely present – using the breath as the access tool – and bring their best, moment to moment in a contest, event, performance, meeting, etc. They’re not thinking about how high the stakes are; instead, they’re simply vested in the present moment. That’s where the magic happens!
